Oscars Law is so important as it will raise awareness on the plight of the animals which are currently being bred to order for the many pet shops around Australia. Unfortunately I think the general public are under the misguided approach that they are rescuing the “cute” puppy from the pet shop when in reality the moment one is carried out the door, there are dozens more when that puppy came from. Further, given the pet shop is the impulse buy, it often goes from bad to worse for these unfortunate animals with no thought put into a 15+ year commitment.

Not entirely sure how to re-home a higher number of animals in pounds, but Wyong Council has a high volume de-sexing program which means every animal is de-sexed before leaving the pound. This is great as it means the de-sexed animal is of no value to a backyard breeder and means the animal goes to a home where someone isn’t going to profit from its misery. Further accidental breeding is prevented.

It would be great to stop the massive oversupply of animals in the first place though.

    Bring on Oscars Law!
